The Stylized Wannabe
I love blogging. I've connected with so many people, all across the country. You would think things would be competitive but they really aren't. If you are having a bit of trouble or are unsure of yourself, other bloggers are the best cheerleaders around. They love clothes as much as you or I do ( DIY or Food, whatever) and you can inspire them as much as they inspire you!
I'm trying to figure out my blog's "theme". Clearly, thrifting is something I do on the regular, but I don't buy EVERYTHING at the thrift store. I can't. My booty is too big. Speaking of booty...
I'm not truly plus sized, so that doesn't seem to fit either. Actually that's one of the problems. I lost a little weight, and now I fit into "regular" sizes again. I'm not in the plus sizes, but not in the small sizes, just at the top end of the "regular" sizes. What does this mean? I can't fit into the clothes at Torrid (too small) but Shabby Apple dresses don't always fit my booty.
I also divulge quite a bit of my personal life. What I'm doing/going/buying/loving/hating. Work, family, friends. I know a lot of bloggers who started off this way and then have gone more corporate, less of a diary, more glamour.com with it. Buy here, wear this, the trends are such and such. Personally I like hearing about why you wore a particular item of clothing and where you went in it, but this doesn't seem to be the norm any more. I want to make my blog appealing to many people. How can I do that? I can ask my blogger friends right?
So, let me ask you then. What do you like to see on fashion blogs? Do you want links so you can purchase similar items? Less personal content and just thoughts on what's going on in fashion right now? Or do you like hearing about the time I went to the Zoo and the peacock stole my nachos and I spilled Nacho cheese all over my new Forever 21 blouse?
Part of the reason I named my blog The Stylized Wannabe is because I want to be "in" fashion, but I don't wanna spend a ton of time and money on it. I want to be put together and practical. No harem pants or crop tops. Not extreme fashion, just things you can wear everyday. I want to look good and share what I think looks good with other wannabes who just want to dress nicely and learn to incorporate their own style into their clothes.
Leave lots of feed back ladies. I am eager to hear it!

Ashleigh, I've been feeling similarly about my blog. At first I just wanted to focus on fashion, and leave the "personal" stuff out of it. I'm not an overly private person per say, I just thought people didn't want me to rant about what happened in my life over the weekend... then I started to realize that my love of fashion and keeping up with trends or trying new trends is a part of who I am... but it comes with the rest of me too! So I've started to be more personal and I wonder if I should change it to a personal style/lifestyle blog? I don't know. I need help too obviously haha. I like hearing personal stories, so I think you should keep doing that! And you share your outfits/stories together I think it is nice! I guess what I'm saying is I don't know if I would change anything. I also love when you share your thrift finds!

Funny, I've been wondering the same about my blog. Like you, I really have no idea what niche I fall into. I don't feel like I fit wholly into one type of category, so it's really hard to label my blog as anything other than my personal style diary. Figuring out a direction for my writing is also challenging. I know for a fact that a lot of people don't read what I write, so I usually try to keep it short. I get requests to include where I wore a particular outfit to, however, I wear most of my outfits to work, so I don't want to fall into a rut of always saying "this is what I wore to work". And, I'm not interesting enough to always have a cute or clever story to share. :) It's just so tricky to find a balance because I think there are so many different types of readers out there. Personally, I know that I visit different blogs for different reasons. Some solely for the outfits, others for quick fun stories, some for a glimpse into the blogger's life through their writing, and others for fashion trends. I think the key thing is to write about what excites us, and stick to that. If there is one thing I've learned, it's that you can't please everyone.
So, I've been of absolutely no help to you, but I will say that I love reading your stories. I like your blog just the way it is. Unfortunately I don't always have time to comment (I do some blog surfing at work) but I do always check in to read.

Hi! I stumbled on your blog from another that I follow. I think that who we are defines what we wear and so having a fashion post without a story or reason why you like an item defeats the purpose of blogging for me.
Being on a budget also means I need to put more thought and long term attachment into an item. I can't buy the latest bag or trendiest high end item just because its in season. I had to stop watching and reading a lot of my favorite gurus on YouTube and their blogs because it was like watching a commercial or something lol.
I like your blog a lot and have enjoyed some of the posts I've read so far! I gave you a follow and can't wait to read more!

Thanks Jenny! I love your blog. Your work wardrobe is like my fantasy wardrobe, so I can't wait to stop by! Like the feather skirt? I LOVE the skirt and have no use for it at home. I get what you are saying though. I do stop at different blogs for different reasons. I shouldn't have forgotten that. Thank you.
That's funny, there is a thrift store post coming at the end of this week. Or the beginning of next week. I think I like the sound of a personal style/lifestyle blog. "An outfit and a story." I've never featured any of my DIY on here either, and with that line of thinking I could. Thank you Rachel!
I love outfits, but I also like feeling as if I know that blogger - I HATE fashion blogs that tell 0% about the blogger's life and just post outfit photos with NO information beyond that. It makes me sad - I want to know more! How was her day? What does she do at work? What are her annoyances? So I am always in favor of more information - along with those outfits too!
I personally love your blog just the way it is! I like blogs better when theres more of glimpse into the personal life otherwise it would be just another blog! I love hearing about where they wore the outfit and how they feel in it, it's more inspiring than just see it on her. Your blog is one I've become personally invested in, I follow a lot of blogs because I love all the inspiration I get from them but theres only a few that I make sure I check everyday and read the whole post the whole way through and yours is one of them! So yeah I love your blog just as it is now
Aw Kacie I feel the same way about your blog. Sometimes I can't believe you are 19. When I was 19 I dressed like a dork and worked at a Toy Store. You have a vision. You ARE a vision. I actually mentioned your blog again in a post coming up next week. I can see you super famous in a few years and I will tell people "I used to talk to that girl on the internet!"
I feel the same way. Especially with super gorgeous, over the top outfits. It's like WHERE did you wear THAT?! I just happened across a few new blogs in the last few days that were so specific in their mission and content, and it made me feel bad about my little blog. Like I'm not what I should be. I feel better now though!

I LOVE your personal stories, tidbits, info. You have a fun sense of humor as well. You ARE your blog. It's uniquely you. YOU are the theme. I check in with you everyday:) Sharing things about yourself makes you real and makes the blog more personal. It involves emotions rather than just checking out the latest outfit of some girl somewhere. You are building connections with a network of friends. We all support you. I like the blog just the way it is. It may evolve on it's own. You will be guided or inspired and then you will know when and if you truly want to change anything. There are a variety of blogs out there and we visit them for different reasons. Sometimes we don't want a personal connection and sometimes we do. The more corporate a blog the less personal. Corporate blogs are a business not a hobby. There is room for all. Ultimately it depends on what makes YOU happy, rather than what you think others may want from your blog. To answer your question, how do I make my blog more appealing to many people, it is appealing. If you want to reach more people try networking in link ups. It may be more exposure you are seeking. Thank you for putting your blog out there, it's nice to know you.
Thanks Shelly. I have realized I don't need a theme. I AM the theme. I like telling my stories, and when a thread gets going about them. I think my life is hilarious. My Mother, because I mention her so often on here, thinks she is a mini-celebrity now. I love my hobby. I'm never bored anymore. I think more, plan more, and am more creative because I have this awesome audience. I hope to continue it for as long as people will have me.
I have bought items via blogs as well. I think I'll try posting some links. I buy so many things through goodwill that I can't post exact links, but I can post similar items that may interest people!
