HI!

HI!
Hi, I'm Ashleigh! Just call me Ash. I'm a frugal fashionista with a very relaxed dress code, so I am all about "real wear" #ootd's. Come see how you can dress chic on the cheap, and maybe hear a bit about my day-to-day life, my kids, Lou and Logo, also my cat Zoey and my dog Parker! Thanks for stopping by!

Something to stay home in

I threw this together to go out for my cousin's 24th b-day. Usually we celebrate together because our birthdays are only four days apart. Unfortunately, I did not make it to the party, but I did capture the outfit!
I wore this thrifted magenta blazer over my studded black shirt, thrifted ON jeans, and black ankle boots. No clutch because I couldn't find one, but I did rock these geometric earrings AGAIN. I've worn them for the past six days. I can't help it. They're so CHIC!
I love the blazer with the sparkly shirt. I was covered up and warm, but still kind of sexy.
Oh, those earrings!

I definitely will be re-wearing this, probably to work or something. If I switch out the shoes for, say my gold glittery loafers and add slacks, it would be entirely office appropriate.
And then I got photobombed.

Hello my Zoey Meowsie Von Fluffington!
Kisses for Mom! Awwwwww. (Yes. I ridiculously love my cat. I call her my hairy child. My children refer to her as their Sister.)

My daughter said I look like a furby

I finally bought an item on my wish list, this fur vest. It was on sale at Forever 21 for $10. I'm glad I waited to buy it. I detest buying full-priced items.
I love this vest! It's quite warm, and I definitely needed it because it's been super cold. It looks sunny and warm, but it is NOT!
So sunny I needed sunnies...
Then it started to snow!

I really love my new high heel ankle boots too. They are perfect for wearing under jeans.
See?

Dear Denim Jacket: A Love Letter

Dear Denim Jacket,
You were only $20.00. Do you know how happy makes me? SO happy. I'd only be happier if I found you at Goodwill for like $2. It's okay that you are new though. It means I get to break you in myself! I love the slightly acid washed feel to your look. Very 1980's Bruce Springsteen. The little frays and distressing on you just makes me love you oodles more. I think we've been out together 59 times since I brought you home last week. I've had to remove you from my ensembles to take blog photos so I don't look like I'm rocking the same thing everyday! We were meant to find each other in Wet Seal at the mall when I returned those tights. Stay with me forever, my lovely denim jacket. You are my favorite jacket. (Just don't tell the Camo or Leather jackets that I told you that.)
Forever yours faithfully,
Ashleigh
I wore my jean jacket with a mint tank and tee, my leopard print pants, and my converse sneakers, plus an orange statement necklace. And the car keys that I neglected to remove from my belt loop. Oops.
You can also see here that I am rocking my "blogger bun." AKA my messy wrapped bun.

Oh, and teal nails.
Over all, I like this. It was comfortable for a day of running around, trying to get my daughter and niece ready for their debut in 101 Dalmatians. I would change the light tee mixed with the light jacket. I feel like it needs something darker to tie in the black leopard spots on my pants and my sneakers.
And maybe a brighter lip too.

Today is my 27th Birthday

I bought this cardi at Forever 21 last fall because 1.It has a little patch on it that looks like the Gryffindor flag and 2. I was looking for a mustard-colored cardigan. This is more goldenrod colored but it is a more flattering yellow against my pale skin than the mustard option.
When I wore the cardigan with my Sperry leopard trim Top Siders I felt a little bit preppy. Like I was on my way to school, and my huge purses doubles as a chic book bag. School of style maybe???

I added this old H & M scarf to bring all the colors of my ensemble together. The pink of my lipstick, the green of my purse, the black of my t-shirt, the color of my cardigan...you get the idea.
Seriously. Look how big this bag is. I got it as an early b-day gift, and love that it combines 2013's color of the year, Emerald, and the currently trending mint. The gold hardware is so pretty too.
Did I mention that today I am 27 years old? I feel SO old, and at the same time, I feel so young. I mostly feel old when I say something like "I slammed dunked that piece of paper like Michael Jordan!"and my 18 year old pals are like "The Hanes underwear guy?" SMH. I feel so young when I listen to WGRR oldies 103.5. I feel old when I realize the Backstreet Boys have been together for 20 years. Stuff like that. As they say, age is just a number. So...Happy Birthday to me!

The day this fashion blogger started using a good camera

Finally bought a NEW dslr for the blog and I am finally rocking out decent photos. I'm still learning to use it but I think you can see the difference in quality. I didn't have to do anything but crop. Amazing! Roger's better at using it than me, but it's MY camera and I will soon know it in and out. Here's the outfit:
This outfit was an accident. Originally, I was wearing these slacks with a white sweater. I spilled something on my sweater and had this white t-shirt under neath. I then went through the clothes in my trusty mobile closet...er...the trunk of my Ford Taurus and pulled out this denim jacket. I added this fedora to add some snazzy style to my boring work outfit. After work I saw how everything looked together and decided this outfit was "Blogworthy." Indeed it is.
I am also trying out this mint thing in the form of my beaded necklace. I am not a huge fan of mint. I have worn this color exactly once, and then I gave that top away to my sister.
My shirt is a smidgen see through. That's okay though. No one noticed.
This necklace is my absolute favorite! I've been wearing it everyday since it came in the mail. I saw one on Kendi Everyday and it was too expensive, but a lady on Etsy makes a less expensive version and it's still made with real Gold so it doesn't break me out. Her name is Theresa Mink. For some reason I can't link to the Etsy page. Just search "sideways initial necklace" on Etsy.
An extreme close-up of the mint beaded necklace.
I actually just really love this outfit. Work appropriate. Kid appropriate. I can actually bend and lift and do things in it.

A better shot so you can see my hat.
IDK what Roger said but it had me rollin' my eyes.

The day I wore ALL the patterns

I had a little shopping spree over the past couple of weeks. I actually didn't buy a lot of clothing and accessories. I mainly bought things for my home like a new sofa, plus a Nook and a DSLR camera so I can have decent blog pictures. i am very excited about the camera and can't wait to post pics! I'm still getting used to it though.
Anyway, I have been wanting a pair of polka dot jeans FOREVER. I have some DIY'd ones pinned on Pinterest, but I've never gotten around to doing it. When I saw these, I had to have them. Where did I get them? WALMART, of all places! Next to some leopard skinny jeans were these ankle-zip polka dot cuties. They were also on mark down. They were destined to be in my closet! Take a look:
It wasn't enough for me to wear polka dots skinnies though. No, no no my friends. I also wore a tone-on-tone purple striped top, the Army jacket I bought at the Army/Navy surplus store, and I tried to wear my leopard flats, but my Mother wouldn't let me out of the house with all of these patterns AND my (faux) Croc skin bag AND leopard flats. Plus she wanted to borrow them. But I'm not kidding. She literally grabbed my arm and physically restrained me from leaving the house till I at least changed my shoes. Silly Mom. Leopard is a NEUTRAL PRINT. Duh.
I like all the colors and patterns together...but I actually only wore my jacket outside. The snow was gone but it was still HELLA cold.
This is what I wore to dinner and to the mall with my bestie Tara. I only ever see Tara every few months when one of us gets enough time off to make the 2 hour drive. 2 hours doesn't sounds so far but when I have kids and work full time plus she works full time, has all of her after-school activities and church choir AND it's actually round-trip four hours...well...we only see each other every few months. :(
She's the English teacher I talk about all the time. She kept her head down the whole time in the mall. I think my ensemble embarrassed her? Or maybe just because I am loud?
See the ankle zip? I love it. Totally sold me on these jeans. well, and the polka dots of course.
The hanger thingie was hanging out of my shirt in this one. Grrrrrrrrr. Thanks for telling me Mom!

I tucked it back in. I honestly love wearing all these patterns together. In my opinion the stripes in the top are tone-on-tone so it's subtle against the polka dot pants.
Plus, you gotta love gold glittery loafers. They make everyone smile and remind me of the king of Pop, Michael Jackson. In a good way, clearly or I wouldn't wear them.

Was I a walking fashion faux pas or was I totally rocking it? How would you style polka dots pants? More subtle or wild? Let me know!

Day to Night

I really like taking my daytime or work outfits and switching out a few accessories to make a great going-out ensemble! It's why I keep so many hats and shoes in my car! Just kidding. (I'm not kidding...)
Anyway, Roger and I had brunch at the English Pub in Mainstrasse and then went vintage shopping. We stopped at the Army/Navy surplus store and I ended up actually buying a few things! You'll see those items soon. This is what I wore to Brunch:

Outerwear

I got this Herringbone patterned Esprit coat from Burlington Coat Factory as my Christmas gift from my Aunt. It's long enought for me to walk outside and not freeze my ass off, but not constrictive to where I can't drive in it. I've never bought a long coat because I find it hard to steer the car wearing them. This one has definitely replaced my bubble coat! It's stylish AND warm, as well as practical!
It wasn't super cold, so I didn't have it buttoned. I thought I should button it for the photos and a button came off! I fixed it though.
I wore my lovely coat OTW to work over top my casual Friday attire that you read about last Friday. There were many patterns going on! Herringbone, paisley, leopard, snakeskin. They all seem to be working here though.
I just wanted to introduce my lovely new coat.
Coat, meet my Readers. Readers, meet my Coat.
Happy Monday ya'll!

Office Casual the RIGHT way!

This is a note to my co-workers. THIS is how you do Casual Friday! I always try to look a little nicer on top when I am wearing jeans, no one can see out pants over the front desk anyway. Since we are in customer service, it's important to look professional and make a good impression! I think I have accomplished that with this look.
I love how long and tall and lean I look in the flared jeans with the heels. Surprise! I'm going to have to buy more flared jeans! These are old. That's why they are so light. I've washed them so many times...

I think you can tell I love my outfit here. I am wearing my thrifted Loft sweater with my leopard print cardigan, flared jeans, snakeskin heels, and a tribal statement necklace. (A surprise gift from my Husband. I love it. He knows me so well!)

I do not love these shoes though! I have been trying to wear all of the heels in my closet, and now I remember why I do not wear these shoes. They are half a size too small and they give me major toe cleavage! My left foot was numb after three hours, so I switched to Converse sneakers. Bye-bye snakes skin heels. You are OTW to Goodwill. You shall not be missed!
My baubles. I took them off so you can see how pretty my statement necklace is. It's kind of short so I used a bracelet as an extender. The earrings from Forever 21 are my absolute favorite.
Gratuitous shot of me fooling around. I was preparing to engage fisticuffs with a pretend attacker. Yep. I do that. :)
