Inspired by Boho
I was at Goodwill on half off day, putting the gift card I won to use and I spotted this fringed, geometric, super soft, huge Forever 21 top. $2.99 and 1/2 off to boot. I put it in the cart to try on, but I didn't think I'd get it. Once in the dressing room, I fell in love. It's so, super soft. I'd wear it for pajamas! The fringe is playful and fun. But the fit is supposed to be baggy, and aren't curvier people supposed to wear more fitted pieces? I bought it anyway, resolving to wear it with skinny jeans to balance the flowyness of it.
Well, I tried it on with skinny jeans and it wasn't so great. I looked like a fringed potato on tooth picks. So it stayed in the closet while I did some research. I went to the logical choice, Kacie's blog, and began combing through the archives, searching for a way to try and wear this top. I came across this post from a few weeks ago and knew I found just the way to style this shirt! Here's the inspiration:
I took the baggy top and paired it with flared jeans, strappy heels, a structured bag, red lips, a wooden cuff, a myriad of rings, and this beaded fringed necklace (that I actually bought because I liked one Kacie has that is similar!) I am extremely happy with how this turned out. The flared jeans balance the baggy top, the strappy heels give me height and length, creating an overall hourglass silhouette. Initially I thought I had to go with skinnies because flared jeans and a fringed top would look like a costume. I am happy to admit I was quite wrong.
Do you "define" your style? I've tried, but for me it's hard. I buy what I think looks good on me and I wear it. I think most people do that. I'd say I like comfortable, classic pieces that can be worn around kids and to work with minimal effort. There are many things I'd LIKE to wear, but that I end up deciding I CAN'T wear. For example, I really, really love the vibe of bohemian inspired pieces and I've bought quite a few things that I never end up wearing because I feel like I'm in costume. Floppy felt hats, prairie skirts, lace shirts, fringed boots. I feel like an extra on a movie. So not stylish right? I've never managed to capture that boho essence, be comfortable, and not feel foolish. Till NOW!Though I didn't straight up copy the look, I took the shapes and ideas to create an ensemble with a similar bohemian vibe that I'm comfortable wearing while also maintaing my Ashleighness.
Do you think I've finally managed to showcase my inner boho?

Ah this is so awesome! Wasn't expecting to see myself but I LOVE it :)
I love how you made the look feel so very you and I love how the necklace looks with that top, they really compliment each other. I don't think you need to define your style "Ashleighness" can be it's own category because I'll see things when I'm out shopping and think of you all on your own! Your unique and I love it!
Such a fun top, I love the print and colors!
I have a hard time defining my style at times too. Mostly I'd say it's classic and feminine, but occasionally I find myself drawn to edgy or boho pieces.
Yes you did!!!This outfit is a WIN!!
Thanks kacie! I've always wanted to try being a little more free when I dress. I think I'm loosening up!
Thanks Tara. Idk what the print is so I just labeled it geometric. It looks like pixels to me!
Me too. It was trying to style them that always perplexed me!
Thank you Mommy.
Wow, what a great shirt! I love it :) I've also tried to define my style but can't. I feel like I'm either super girly girl and feminine (as many bows, ruffles and lace as possible) and then sometimes I'm all about edgy (spikes, dark colors, leather). And my favorite looks mix the two!
I used to love spiked, leather and studded accessories. As they've worn out I just never replaced them. Too bad too because they really amp up a look!
Beautiful outfit! I love finding nice things in thrift stores! And you are glowing, amazing smile!
I don't know if I can properly define my style; it would be easier to say what it is not. This said, I'm extremely feminine, that's for sure. Add a dash of romantic one day, edgy the next, preppy, lady-like, vintage... Who knows. That's what you get for being a Pisces, you change all the time!

I really dig that top - Macklemore would be proud. ;o)
I've quit trying to define my style - it changes day by day and that used to bug me, but isn't fashion all about being fun and trying new things? So cool, I am whatever I am.
MAcklemore is my spirit animal lol. IDK. I see Blogs Like Penny Pincher Fashion where they have such clearly defined styles that are so well curated and I feel like I'm lacking because I don't. Then I want to try something but I'm afraid. Sigh. #fashionproblems
I'm a pisces too! I love trying new things but since I'm now a size 12, that should be easier rather than harder, right??? Not so. I still haven't found a peplum that does anything for me, ditto printed pants.
I think it's a good thing you bought that top. Aside from the insanely good price, it's really cute and definitely seems like a style that you've pulled off well. I have the same hesitation about certain styles, wondering if it will seem like I'm wearing a costume. Honestly, it's small steps. I saw people wearing fun headbands on blogs, so I bought a couple and I love them. Maybe it looks silly, but I wore them with confidence, and I feel like you do that too!!

Exactly! I really like turbans. I wear them all the time at home but I never venture outside in them. I think I'm gonna keep going bold! I really live that shirt! If my puppy didn't want to eat the fringe I'd wear it all the time!
You totally should!!
Oh, your puppy with out grow that eventually. I lost some good jeans and a purse (among other things) to one of my dogs when he was a puppy...
She ate some shoes, head phones and pens today. I was showering. I think she's teething.
Hello!
I love it Ashleigh! Your top is too cute!

Thanks Rebecca they are my favorite part too!
I never have defined my style, because I'm so changing. I love to play with girly and boy-ish, but I always have had soft spot for boho. It's so feminine and effortlessly stylish.
Love your look darling. I think your inspiration is wonderful, but you did amazing job styling this fabulous look.

Thanks Ramona! My only wish is that I had more color in my outfit. Like, bright pink fringed top lol.
Thats what I love about fashion lately! You can be boho one day, edgy the next, girl after that, and so on. But then blogs like PPF and Kendi Everyday showcase their carefully curated style so effortlessly. Even Kacie, whose look inspired my post, knows what she likes and sticks with and and the result is so flawless. I feel like if I had a basic uniform of sorts, something I could reach for and look great in no matter what, I'd have it down. I'd feel more polished maybe?
I know what you mean. I used to try to define my look but I've long since given up. It's fun to experiment - sometimes I'm frilly and floral and sometimes I want to be all tomboy. It's great to have choices!
Exactly!
Oh, peplums are so overrated, in my opinion... But good luck finding the pants!
You look great and I love the entire look!
Thank you!!!
Your hair/glass/lipstick combo is DEAD ON in this look. So pretty.
