Basics
Everyone knows you build your wardrobe with basics and add fun, trendy accessories to round it out, right? I agree 100% to this rule. However, it's taken quite a bit of time to build my wardrobe basics back up. After a heinous lipstick/dryer/denim issue, I lost most of my jeans, my chambray shirt, and a few other clothing items. I wanted to find my EXACT items to replace them, and I finally did! I also finally bought the utility vest I wanted when Old Navy had 30% off recently. Now, I feel like I have most of the items my wardrobe needs, and I can focus on the fun things like statement necklaces and splurge handbags.
Here I feel I've illustrated an easy way to use just the basics and still have a fun, classic but still on trend outfit. I'm simply wearing a chambray button down, skinny jeans, utility vest, slip on sneakers, and my Coach tote with my Mickey Mouse watch and layered necklaces. But because my sneakers are leopard print and my tote is vibrantly colored, my outfit is still interesting and fun, and I don't automatically blend into the crowd,
*When your nose is so big it has it's own shadow.* :(
Thoughts on the shoes? I feel like they are SUCH a Mom shoe! I know I AM a Mom, and I know they are leopard, but the shape! We called this type of shoes buddies when I was a kid, and all the Moms had white buddies. Thoughts please ladies. I'm torn.
So how do you ladies kick your "basics" up a notch?

Big Thanks to Jackie from Something About That Thing for my geode necklace. I spotted hers in my instagram feed and had to have it! You can follow Jackie in instagram here. Prepared to be jelly, she's awesome.
Bag: Coach, not longer available. This is a pretty red option.
Alas, the only thrifted items in this ootd are my Mickey Mouse watch and vintage cat eye sunnies! I try to incorporate one thrifted item into every outfit, but sometimes you just want to wear all your new things!

You look comfortable, and the splash of the purse makes you stand out in a crowd!!!And I like the shoes!!!!
I WAS comfy Mom! Plus, the shoes were only 14.90. They're actually a wee bit big. I could have gotten an 8 in them.
Awww I was so excited to see that you bought the necklace. I spotted it on Instagram and that's why I was so excited to share. Thank you so much for the shout out in this post as well :)
I wouldn't have thought "mom" shoes when I saw those. I feel like I keep seeing fun sneakers pop up, so I want some (and I'm not a mom). I too like to dress up my basics with fun accessories because that's what really helps us have our own personality and style. How many people have that utility vest? Probably a ton, but I bet each person styles it totally differently.

The sneakers were $14 on H & M, but windsorstore.com has them for $12.90 and they are a slip on. In white or gold.

Great minds! I've actually been seeing this outfit everywhere and when I got the vest I could finally wear it myself! It's so practical and comfy!
Thanks Angela!
I want espadrilles as well! Mine were $14 at H & M but the ones I REALLY wanted were the leopard slip-ons (in both colors!) from www.windsorstore.com for $12.90.

It is, and it's also surprisingly versatile!
I LOVE the shoes! haha. But I may be biased since I own them too and have loved wearing them. Also, I never knew they were considered Mom shoes!
I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad laundry experience that basically ruined some of your key pieces but what a "fun" reason to shop for new! haha

Oh no, the lipstick-dryer incident sounds horrifying. At least you're rebuilding :) I'm actually a big fan of the shoes-- shape and print :) Even if mom's did wear them back in the day, you know what they say, everything in fashion comes back!
Mili
Cute outfit! I love your vest too! I wish it was warm enough here in Maryland to wear mine.
